Aim- Determine the melting point of ice

Theory- It is a temperature at which solid changes into a liquid that state is known as the melting point.  Once the temperature reaches its melting point, it sticks to the point until the solid fully converts into the liquid state.

Aim- Prepare the 

(i) suspension of soil, chalk powder, and fine sand in water

(ii) a true solution of common salt, sugar, and alum

(iii) a colloidal solution of starch in water and egg albumin in water and differentiate between them based on

  3. Filtration criteria


(i) The particle size in suspension is greater, which may be observed with normal eyes or under the microscope.

(ii) Homogenous mixture of two or more substances that can’t be separated from each other. The component presented in the larger amount is known as a solvent.

(iii) Colloidal solution appears to be homogeneous. The particles can scatter a ray of light; when left undisturbed, the solutions are stable, and the particles are invisible to normal eyes. 

Experiment 3

Aim- A separation of the mixture of sand, common salt, and ammonium chloride

Theory- It is a form of heterogeneous mixture which can be separated by various physical separation methods. By selecting the suitable separation method, these can be separated.

  1. You can separate the sand in the water as it is insoluble
  2. Common salt can be recovered by evaporation
  3. Ammonium chloride sublimes on heating

Aim- Determine the boiling point of the water

Theory- It is the temperature at which boiling occurs for the specific liquid.

Aim- Verification of the law of conservation of mass in any chemical reaction

Theory- It states that the mass remains conserved during a chemical reaction. In this experiment, you need to verify the law of conservation of mass in any specific chemical reaction.
